Olbia is a turistic town in the north of Sardinia that has a port and an airport. Arriving both by plane and ship it is possible to catch sight of some of the inlets that surround it. The most famous are La Playa di Pittulongu, Il Pellicano, Bados (Olbia), Spiaggia Bianca and Cala Sabina (in Golfo Aranci). Others are more hidden and smaller, often at the end of narrow white roads like the marvellous and unspoilt Cala Moresca in Golfo Aranci. Moving towards Porto Cervo and Baja Sardinia, the number of wonderful beaches raises: Capriccioli, Liscia Ruja, Il Piccolo and Il Grande Pevero. Last but not least, the renowned Spiaggia del Principe that earned its name because it was the favourite beach of prince Aga Khan.
Reasons why renting a car is important.
Any destination is easily accessible by car. For example, from Olbia you can go to Orosei Gulf which is only 100 km away or catch a boat for a guided visit of the enchanting Grotta del Bue Marino; on the way back you can stop at San Teodoro which, besides La Cinta beach, is full of clubs and discos and offers a very lively nightlife for everyone. You can also plan a coast to coast in La Maddalena Island or Caprera Island; they both are 40 km away from Olbia and offer incredibly beautiful white-sand beaches like Spiaggia Rosa and several cultural stopovers like Garibaldi’s house and the related museums. Moreover, the amazing Porto Rotondo, which is 18 km away from Olbia, offers a vibrant nightlife and magnificent beaches such as Marinella, Spiaggia Ira and Spiaggia dei Sassi.
Porto Cervo is one of the most renowned places in Sardinia and is considered the gem of Gallura thanks to its peculiar architecture that made it famous and because it is the destination of Italian and international jet set. Walking through the narrow picturesque streets is an unmissable experience. Another place that deserves a visit is undoubtedly Baja Sardinia, 35 km from Olbia; it offers a seaside promenade full of shops, workshops and restaurants. Do not miss the chance to spend a pleasant night at Phi Beach, a beautiful club nestled in rocks where you can drink and listen to good music all night long. Another place that needs to be mentioned is Poltu Quattu (“hidden harbour”), which is less than 35 km away and develops around a bay that welcomes yachts, boats, restaurants and shops, and also offers many ways to relax.
